What To Expect on Siding Replacement Day with New Beginnings Construction

What to Expect on Siding Replacement Day

A Homeowner Guide by New Beginnings Construction (NBC)

Replacing your siding is one of the most transformative upgrades you can make to your home — and at New Beginnings Construction, we want the experience to feel smooth, organized, and fully transparent from start to finish. This guide walks you through what happens on installation day, how to prepare your home, what the crew will be doing, and how payment works when you’re on a draw-style payment schedule.

Before We Arrive: Preparing for Your Siding Project

A few steps can help create a safe and efficient work environment:

  • Move vehicles out of the driveway
  • Clear furniture, décor, hoses, and items near the exterior walls
  • Remove wall décor inside rooms where siding is being replaced (hammering can cause vibration)
  • Keep pets indoors or in a safe area
  • Notify us of any fragile landscaping
  • Identify any areas of concern you want to mention to your Site Supervisor

Your NBC team will walk the property with you before beginning work to ensure expectations are aligned.

Your Siding Replacement Timeline

Every project is unique, but here is what typically occurs on siding installation day:

1. Crew Arrival & Property Protection

Our crew begins the day by setting up:

  • Tarps along the perimeter
  • Debris zones for old siding
  • Magnetic tools for nail cleanup
  • Safety barriers
  • A protection plan for landscaping and windows

Your Site Supervisor will check in with you and confirm the scope before tear-off begins.

2. Removal of Existing Siding (Tear-Off)

This portion is hands-on, noisy, and involves significant movement around your home. Our team will:

  • Carefully remove old siding
  • Remove damaged trim
  • Expose sheathing for inspection
  • Identify rot, moisture, or structural issues

Important:
If the existing siding is installed too close to shingles, or pre-existing damage exists, some materials may break during removal. NBC will review these risks with you beforehand.

3. Inspection of Sheathing & Structural Elements

Once the siding is removed, we inspect:

  • Sheathing conditions
  • Water infiltration
  • Rot or deterioration
  • Flashing and framing concerns

If repairs are needed, your Site Supervisor will notify you immediately. These repairs are often hidden uncovered conditions and considered a change order, depending on severity.

4. Installation of New Siding System

Your siding installation may include:

  • House wrap / moisture barrier
  • Flashing tape and waterproofing
  • Trim, corner boards, and fascia
  • Fiber cement (Hardie) or vinyl siding
  • Caulking, sealing, and prep for painting

NBC installs siding to manufacturer specs for warranty protection and long-term durability.

5. Painting or Finishing (If applicable)

For fiber cement siding:

  • Painting occurs after installation
  • Your second draw payment is due before painting begins
  • Treated wood fascia/soffit cannot be painted for 4–6 weeks
  • NBC can return to paint this once cured (additional charge)

6. Cleanup, Magnetic Sweep & Final Inspection

At the end of your siding replacement:

  • Debris is removed
  • Nails are collected with magnetic tools
  • Landscaping is checked
  • Walkways and driveways are swept
  • A Site Supervisor performs a final inspection
  • Touch-ups and final notes are documented

Your project advisor or site supervisor will follow up to schedule any remaining finishing work (painting, punch-list items, etc.).

Payment Expectations — Draw Schedule

Your siding project is on a three-part draw schedule designed to keep work moving efficiently and transparently.

Here’s how the payment structure works:

1️⃣ First Draw — 1/3 Deposit

Due before your project is placed on the production schedule.
This allows NBC to:

  • Order materials
  • Lock in your project date
  • Allocate your production team
  • Begin project preparation

2️⃣ Second Draw — 1/3 Payment

Due once the majority of the siding has been installed and before painting begins
This typically occurs once:

  • Old siding has been removed
  • New siding is mostly installed to allow for painting of elevations
  • Trim work is underway or complete

This ensures the project continues seamlessly into the painting/finishing phase.

3️⃣ Final Draw — 1/3 Payment

Due upon completion of:

  • Painting (if applicable)
  • Caulking and finishing
  • Final inspection
  • Punch list items specified in contract

Your Office Manager will provide invoices, receipts, and draw documentation.

Important Transparency & Project Disclaimers

To ensure a smooth experience, please review the following:

Hidden HVAC, Electrical & Plumbing Lines

If mechanical lines (HVAC, electrical, water) were installed improperly and run too close to sheathing or exterior walls:

  • Nails from siding installation may puncture these lines
  • NBC is not responsible for damage caused by non-code installations
  • Repairs can be made at additional cost if needed

Fascia & Soffit Replacement

If wooden fascia or soffit boards require replacement:

  • They will be replaced with treated wood
  • Treated wood cannot be painted for 4–6 weeks
  • NBC can return later for painting for an additional fee, or this may be already accounted for in your contract – check to verify that is included, otherwise this may be an additional cost for wood components

Attic Debris (If Roofing Is Also Being Completed)

If your siding project is paired with roofing work:

  • Some debris may enter the attic during roofing
  • Please cover any stored items ahead of time

Siding Installed Too Close to Shingles

If existing siding overlaps or sits too tight to your roof:

  • Removal may cause unavoidable breakage
  • NBC is not liable for siding installed incorrectly
  • Replacement can be performed as a change order if approved
  • We review all risk areas with you before work begins

Interior Wall Vibration & Finish Imperfections
During siding removal and installation:

  • Normal vibration may occur throughout the home
  • Pre-existing conditions such as nail pops, minor cracks, or drywall tape seams may surface
  • These conditions are not caused by siding workmanship, but by interior materials responding to standard construction activity
  • NBC is not responsible for cosmetic interior repairs unless specifically included in the contract

Siding Replacement FAQS

Is siding installation loud?

Yes. Siding removal and installation involve hammering, saws, drills, and crew movement around the exterior of your home, so you should expect noticeable noise throughout the day.

Will I be able to access my home?

Yes, you will still be able to access your home, but there may be temporary limitations when crews are working around doors or entry points.

Will nails or debris be left behind?

Our crews perform multiple magnetic sweeps and a thorough cleanup, but it is normal for a few nails to surface later. We recommend walking your property carefully over the following days and contacting us if you notice an unusual amount of debris.

Should I move personal items inside my home?

Yes. Interior walls can vibrate during siding removal and installation, so fragile items should be removed from walls and shelves adjacent to work areas.

Do I need to be home during siding installation?

No. You are not required to be home, but please ensure we have a reliable way to reach you in case questions arise during the project.
