A roof replacement is one of the most important improvements you’ll ever make to your home — and we want you to feel prepared, informed, and confident every step of the way. At New Beginnings Construction, transparency and trust are core to our process. This guide walks you through exactly what will happen on the day of your roof replacement, what you can expect from our team, and how you can prepare your home for a smooth experience.
The Roof Replacement Day Timeline
Every project is unique, but here’s what a typical roof replacement day looks like:
1. Crew Arrival & Home Protection
Our crew usually arrives first thing in the morning, sometimes before sunrise to ensure we make the most progress possible per day.
Before removing anything, we:
- Protect landscaping where possible
- Set up tarps and catch-zones for debris
- Identify access points and safety perimeters
- Review the scope of work one final time
Your Site Supervisor will be on-site and introduce themselves, available to answer questions or concerns and walk the property before work begins.
2. Tear-Off of Existing Roof
We remove all shingles, underlayment, nails, flashing, and components down to the decking. This part is noisy — expect hammering, movement, and debris removal throughout the day.
Good to know:
It’s normal for small granules or dust to end up in your attic during removal. If you have items in your attic that need protection, please cover them before the project begins.
3. Decking Inspection & Repairs
Once the roof is removed, we inspect the decking for rot or structural issues. Your estimate includes a set number of decking sheets based on known conditions, with a per-sheet price listed for any additional replacements if needed.
If more damaged decking is discovered, it must be replaced immediately to avoid leaving your home exposed. The site supervisor will document the total number of sheets replaced and review it with you as soon as the final amount is known, and roofing surfaces are secured.
4. Installing the New Roof System
We install:
- Synthetic underlayment
- Drip edge
- Flashing
- Ridge ventilation
- New shingles or roofing materials
- New pipe boots and components
Your NBC crew follows both local codes and manufacturer specifications so your warranty remains valid.
5. Clean-Up, Magnets & Final Walkthrough
At the end of the day, we:
- Perform a full property cleanup
- Sweep affected areas multiple times with heavy-duty magnets to pick up nails
- Remove debris and load remaining materials
- Conduct a final inspection of the roof
- Verify that the job matches the contracted scope

Common Homeowner Questions about Roof Replacement Day
Can I access my garage?
During tear-off, debris may fall around garage areas. We recommend parking vehicles outside and minimizing garage access until the crew is finished.
What about my pets?
For their safety (and comfort), keep dogs inside or in a secure indoor area. The noise and activity can be stressful, and nails or debris may pose risks.
Will it be loud?
Yes — roof replacements involve hammering, scraping, and footsteps. Plan accordingly if you work from home, have young children, or sensitive pets.
Will nails be left behind after install?
We perform multiple magnet sweeps and a thorough cleanup to minimize leftover debris. However, its impossible to catch, capture, and collect every nail. We recommend walking the yard carefully for the next few days. In the event you notice an unusually high number of nails, give us a call and we will come back out to inspect and perform more magnet sweeps.
Will the interior be affected at all?
Some vibration is normal during roof replacement and may be felt inside the home. You may also notice minor debris in the attic during tear-off. We recommend securing fragile items and covering stored belongings in the attic.
Do I need to be home for my Roof Replacement?
No — you are not required to be home. Roofing can be loud and disruptive, so many homeowners choose to be away for the day. Please ensure we have a reliable way to reach you in case questions come up during the project.
Your Payment Expectations
A 50% deposit is required to secure your project. This deposit allows us to order materials, reserve your production slot, and schedule our crews.
At the completion of your roof replacement, the remaining 50% balance is due. Your Office Manager will send a final invoice and is available for any payment questions you may have.
Project Transparency & Important Disclaimers
WHAT TO EXPECT ON ROOF REPLACEMENT DAY
To ensure clarity and set proper expectations, here are important points all homeowners should be aware of:
1. Materials
NBC orders extra shingles and roofing materials to ensure no delays during installation.
- NBC will collect all leftover materials after completion.
- Homeowners may keep one bundle of shingles upon request.
- Additional materials do not become a credit to the customer.
2. Satellite Dishes
Satellite dishes must be removed to properly install the new roof.
- NBC will reinstall the dish in the same location.
- We are not responsible for signal loss.
- Homeowners should contact their satellite provider for realignment.
3. Hidden Electrical, Plumbing & HVAC Lines
Some older homes may have improperly installed lines touching the roof deck from below.
- Nails used during roofing may unintentionally puncture these lines.
- If the lines were installed against code, NBC is not liable for resulting damage.
- We will make every effort to avoid issues and perform repairs if needed (additional cost may apply).
4. Siding Installed Too Close to Shingles
If wood or fiber-cement lap siding sits too close to the shingle edge, removal of the old roof can cause damage.
- NBC is not responsible for replacing siding that is already installed improperly or shows preexisting damage.
- Replacement can be completed as a change order at an additional cost.
- Potential risk areas will be reviewed with you prior to starting work.
5. Attic Dust & Debris
During tear-off or ridge vent installation, small debris may enter the attic.
- Please cover stored items before installation day.
- This is normal and unavoidable during the roofing process.
6. Fascia & Soffit Replacement
If wooden fascia or soffit boards are rotten or damaged:
- They will be replaced with treated wood at an additional cost.
- Treated wood cannot be painted immediately.
- Paint can be applied in approx. 4–6 weeks once cured.
- NBC can paint it later for an additional charge.
